Germany’s candidacy for a seat on the Security Council in 2019/20

Germany is seeking to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Foreign Minister Steinmeier announced the candidacy for 2019/20 in Hamburg on Monday (27 June). The elections are expected to take place at the General Assembly in June 2018.

Deutschland hat 2017 den Vorsitz der G20 inne. Das Gipfeltreffen der Staats- und Regierungschefs sowie Vertreter internationaler Organisationen findet am 7. und 8. Juli 2017 in Hamburg statt. Zuvor sind auch mehrere G20-Fachministerkonferenzen vorgesehen. Die Außenminister der G20-Staaten kommen am 16. und 17. Februar 2017 in Bonn zusammen. Der Gipfel und die Fachministertreffen bieten die Gelegenheit, aktuelle internationale Herausforderungen zu diskutieren und neue Themen im internationalen Kontext voranzubringen.
