Germany provides UNIDIR with 800.000 € grant for 2017.

08.12.2016: Botschafter Michael Biontino und der Leiter von UNIDIR, Direktor Jarmo Sareva, unterzeichnen einen Zuwendungsvertrag über 800.000 Euro Enlarge image (© StV) On 8 December the Head of the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Conference on Disarmament, Ambassador Michael Biontino, and the Director of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), Jarmo Sareva, signed a Euro 800.000 grant contract covering the year of 2017. The grant is earmarked for activities in the field of Conventional Arms Control (“Assessing the Role of Arms Control in Managing Conflict”),Emerging Security Issues (“The Weaponization of Increasingly Autonomous Technologies”  and “Cyber Security Issues” ) as well as Weapons of Mass Destruction (“New Approaches to Transparency and Verification of Fissile Material Stocks”).

With the new grant Germany extends and expands its already close cooperation with UNIDIR. It should be highlighted that in the period of 2013-2016 approximately Euro 1.4 Million have been provided for UNIDIR´s activities.
