Germany active in the Humanitarian Segment of ECOSOC in Geneva

The focus of the side events co-hosted by Germany was on localization, innovation in the context of humanitarian assistance, and the recently established Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF).

In a video message, Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel expressed his full support for the United Nations Central Emergency Reponse Fund (CERF) and pledged to increase the German contribution from EUR 50 to 60 million.

The forecast-based financing approach enables predictive support before the full damage potential of a crisis arises. This allows to save lives and to reduce the cost of reconstruction.
